Read This Or Go Bankrupt!
The world of business development has shifted in a major way in the last six months
and if you don’t adapt you may very well go BANKRUPT!
As my devout followers know I’m a HUGE advocate of marketing automation. Actually, I’d go as far as to say I’m FANATICAL about marketing automation because I’ve seen how it can help companies double their sales and triple their profits!
However, in the last six months, I’ve experienced first hand a shift in B2B and B2C
sales… I can no longer rely heavily on email marketing to convert leads into prospects.
I’ve had to integrate a multi-media approach!
Here’s the problem!
• Too many people are using ONLY email to market their business
• Too many people do not have strict enough spam policies and as such consumers
are skeptical of email marketing
• Email open rates have dipped so low its ridiculous (industry wide, not just us)
Here’s the opportunity!
• If you integrate a multi-media approach to your marketing campaigns you will stand
out beyond the clutter and it will impact your response rate (in a good way!)
• Use paper! Direct mail, if done properly, is showing to be very beneficial. Let me
give you an example; we do seminars all over the world (I just came back from a
world tour where we did 15 seminars in 20 days in 5 different countries) and in the
past we would only rely on an email confirmation and email to send instructions for
registrants. We have recently changed our approach to include a piece of mail and
a phone call and we’re seeing this work very well because the correlation of those
mailed and those attended is over 80% in some cases (I call that proof)!
4 Tips For Creating Compelling Internet Videos!
With web video exploding and the promise of GoogleTV around the corner, it’s a wonderful time to be able to upload your own content. But just because anyone can do it doesn’t mean everyone should. For every well-produced, entertaining and informative video, there are millions that aren’t. So what are some of the bigger pitfalls to avoid if you want your video to get people talking?
Firstly, remember that at the moment, the vast majority of content created for the Internet makes zero money, so everything you do should come from a place of passion. Here are a few tips to make that passion work for you.

Case Study: Apex Personal Training (2x sales, 3x profits!)
My colleague and close friend, Jean-Guy Francoeur, just returned from a business trip to Billings, Montana where he was working on a campaign for his client, Apex Personal Training. This is not the first time JG has been involved in their marketing, and judging by the results he’s pulling for them, it won’t be his last. I asked him if we could hop on a skype video call and discuss the strategies behind the incredible results he helped them achieve. Enjoy.
This is the post card (I think JG refers to it as a mailer) that went out:
They also created a special report entitled “Life Lessons from an Ironman”:

The Copywriter’s Arsenal (3 vital tools)
No matter what level of marketer you are, if you’re doing marketing you have to learn how to copywrite. Some people hate copywriting. I know. I used to be one of them. And truth be told, it still drives me nuts from time to time. But when you have guides, rules, and techniques it become a lot simpler. Well, good news, because I’ve got some good ones for you.
The little guide has a very specific use: Include these three things every time you have a marketing piece that is selling something. These three tools are what separate the men from the boys. This is how you tell if the person who wrote the sales copy knows a damn thing or not. If they are missing these things, the person’s an amateur!
The Copywriter’s Arsenal:
- Risk Reversal
- Bonuses (aka Stacking the Cool)
- One Strong CTA (Call To Action)
Risk Reversal
Risk reversals are under utilized and hugely powerful. This is the ’30 day Money Back Guarantee’, ’14-Day Trail’, ‘Return it and get double your money back’, ’3-year Warranty’ on whatever it is that is being sold. The first business I ever had was a painting franchise for one of the largest painting franchisors in Canada, Works Painting. Everybody in the painting industry has a guarantee. Most are only one or two years. In fact, I’ve never come across anyone other than Works Painting who had a guarantee longer than 2 years. And let me tell you, it sold jobs. When all else was equal, I always got the job. Because the guarantee really meant something.
3 Ways to Make the Most of Your Company’s Social Platform
Here are some great tidbits from the Harvard Business Review.
More and more companies are introducing social networking tools to help employees connect. However, these should not be considered “work versions” of Facebook or Twitter. These platforms are intended to support your work, not give you a place to post pictures of your poodle. Here are three ways to make good use of these tools to advance your work:
- Narrate your work. Talk about your current projects: where you are, what you’re struggling with, and what you’re producing. This will help others who may be doing similar work find you.
- Ask questions. There is often collective wisdom out there. If you’re stuck, ask the crowd to help you out.
- Talk about social stuff. If your company softball team won last night’s game, put it out there. Socializing is an important part of work and these tools are perfect for supporting it. You may want to dedicate a specific part of the platform to socializing, however, so people can avoid it if they want to.
10 Reasons Every TV Exec Needs to Start Tweeting
Craig Engler is the general manager and senior vice president of Syfy Digital. He’d love to talk you about TV or Syfy, answer your questions and hear about what you had for lunch. You can look him up on Twitter at @syfy.
I tried using Twitter three separate times before I figured out how truly useful it can be. The first time was early on, when no one I knew was using it, and I had no idea what I was doing. I tried searching for friends and followed a few random feeds and thought, “Meh, what’s this possibly good for?”
My second jump into Twitter was after the initial big wave of hype hit. I decided I should rejoin to figure out what I missed the first time. This time around, I found that Twitter was flooded with people randomly talking about their day (and their meals — people really do love to talk about food on Twitter) and again I thought, this is definitely not for me.
The last time, and the one that clinched the deal for me, was almost by accident. I wanted to see what people were saying about the finale of our hit series, Battlestar Galactica. I was looking at Facebook and on our own Syfy message boards, and the feedback wasn’t keeping up with the pace of the show. I wanted to see instant, real-time reactions. So I wandered over to Twitter.
