The Five Most Expensive Words:
by Gerry Robert
- Can’t
- Blame
- Passive
- Conformity
- Quit
There are certain words which should be deleted from the vocabulary of each person interested in success. These words should never be uttered by the person who wishes to win in a big way.
The goal of every achievement-orientated person is to avoid these words like the plague. How do you act around a plague? You stay clear from the areas without even wanting to think about the areas. You will avoid people who have just come from the plague-stricken area for fear that the plague will infect you. If you are somehow exposed to a plague you take a million precautions to avoid contaminations. You wash with special anti-septic soap, you visit a doctor, you take anti-biotic medicine as a prevention. You do whatever you have to to make sure the plague does not take hold in your body.
Oh that we take such precautions when it comes to our success! If only you made a similar effort to avoid the 5 Most Expensive Words which cost millions every year.
These five words used on the tongue, or practised in anyway in one’s behaviour is the surest way to sales mediocrity at best, poverty at worst.

Read This Or Go Bankrupt!
The world of business development has shifted in a major way in the last six months
and if you don’t adapt you may very well go BANKRUPT!
As my devout followers know I’m a HUGE advocate of marketing automation. Actually, I’d go as far as to say I’m FANATICAL about marketing automation because I’ve seen how it can help companies double their sales and triple their profits!
However, in the last six months, I’ve experienced first hand a shift in B2B and B2C
sales… I can no longer rely heavily on email marketing to convert leads into prospects.
I’ve had to integrate a multi-media approach!
Here’s the problem!
• Too many people are using ONLY email to market their business
• Too many people do not have strict enough spam policies and as such consumers
are skeptical of email marketing
• Email open rates have dipped so low its ridiculous (industry wide, not just us)
Here’s the opportunity!
• If you integrate a multi-media approach to your marketing campaigns you will stand
out beyond the clutter and it will impact your response rate (in a good way!)
• Use paper! Direct mail, if done properly, is showing to be very beneficial. Let me
give you an example; we do seminars all over the world (I just came back from a
world tour where we did 15 seminars in 20 days in 5 different countries) and in the
past we would only rely on an email confirmation and email to send instructions for
registrants. We have recently changed our approach to include a piece of mail and
a phone call and we’re seeing this work very well because the correlation of those
mailed and those attended is over 80% in some cases (I call that proof)!
Insanity! Two Billion Views A Day!?
We have all witnessed the prevalence of online video reach unprecedented levels in recent years. Online video has become so powerful that it is now the cornerstone of any good internet marketing campaign. At the core of the popularity of online video is of course YouTube. Since 2005 YouTube has become a dominant force in online video viewing and was acquired by Google as a result. The sheer power of online video marketing is something that many have reaped the benefits of in recent years.
Less than a month after its fifth birthday, YouTube has announced that it has exceeded two billion video views per day.
The announcement from the Google owned video website comes as part of a larger initiative that the company is launching today to retell the history behind YouTube and its growth. Part of that campaign is the launch of “My YouTube Story” and the related YouTube 5 Year Channel.

Valuing Those Who Tell You the Bitter Truth – New York Times
Here is an absolutely fantastic interview done by Adam Bryant from the New York Times. He is interviewing Pamela Fields the chief executive officer of the clothing and apparel company Stetson.
Q. Tell me about your early career decisions.
A. I majored in nuclear engineering and nuclear arms control through the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton. But when I went to work for an engineering firm, it was the wrong fit. It was terrible, and I had no business to be there.
So I decided I wanted to go into cosmetics, and I went to the phone book, opened it up to the cosmetics and beauty section, and I started withA. The first company I saw that I had heard of was Avon. So I called them up — this goes under chutzpah — and I said: “I’m Pam Fields, I can speak Portuguese, French and Italian fluently. I know you’re a global company. Surely you need me.” As it turns out, they did. They had an opening on the Brazil desk, which is to this day one of their biggest markets. I learned to choose which of their thousand products should go into their little biweekly brochure.
And after doing that very well — no management involved — I was promoted to… continue reading
